Year Over Year Growth Calculator
Free online year over year growth calculator to measure the absolute and percentage change from one year to the next. This calculator is useful for business owners, finance teams, investors, analysts, marketers, startup founders, ecommerce managers, and anyone comparing annual sales, revenue, profit, traffic, subscribers, users, or production figures. Year over year growth, often shortened to YoY growth, is one of the most common performance measures because it compares the same type of period across two years. That helps reduce the distortion caused by monthly seasonality and gives a clearer long-term trend than very short-period comparisons.
This calculator uses two main inputs. Previous year value means the metric from the earlier year. Current year value means the same metric from the latest year. Once those values are entered, the calculator shows year-over-year difference and year-over-year growth. These outputs help you evaluate both the raw increase or decrease and the percentage growth relative to the previous year. The raw difference is useful when you want to know how many extra dollars, customers, units, or visits were gained or lost. The percentage growth is useful when you want a standardized comparison across time, departments, campaigns, or companies of different sizes.
The formula of year over year growth
Year-over-year difference = Current year value – Previous year value
Year-over-year growth (%) = (Current year value – Previous year value) / Previous year value x 100
Here previous year value means the value from the earlier year, current year value means the value from the latest year, year-over-year difference means the absolute change between the two years, and year-over-year growth means the percentage increase or decrease relative to the earlier year. A positive result means growth, while a negative result means decline.
Solved Example
Example 1: Find the year over year growth if revenue was $120,000 in the previous year and $144,000 in the current year.
Solve: Year-over-year difference = 144000 – 120000 = $24,000
Year-over-year growth = 24000 / 120000 x 100 = 20.00%
Example 2: Find the result if annual orders were 8,500 in the previous year and 9,180 in the current year.
Solve: Year-over-year difference = 9180 – 8500 = 680
Year-over-year growth = 680 / 8500 x 100 = 8.00%
Example 3: Find the result if subscribers were 50,000 in the previous year and 46,000 in the current year.
Solve: Year-over-year difference = 46000 – 50000 = -4,000
Year-over-year growth = -4000 / 50000 x 100 = -8.00%

| Previous Year | Current Year | Difference | Year-over-year Growth |

| 50,000 | 46,000 | -4,000 | -8.00% |
| 8,500 | 9,180 | 680 | 8.00% |
| 120,000 | 144,000 | 24,000 | 20.00% |

How to use this year over year growth calculator
Enter the previous year value in the proper input field. After that, enter the current year value in the second field. Then click the calculate button. The calculator will show the year-over-year difference and year-over-year growth in the result box.
This calculator is especially useful when comparing annual business performance because it matches equivalent periods from two different years. Revenue, profit, annual website traffic, users, subscribers, production, and expenses can all be reviewed in this way. A monthly comparison may be distorted by seasonality, but year over year growth often gives a better high-level picture of underlying direction.
When using the result, remember that year-over-year growth explains the change between two annual points, but it does not explain why the change happened. Pricing changes, acquisitions, inflation, promotions, economic conditions, and one-time events can all affect the result. Even so, year-over-year growth remains one of the clearest and most practical performance measures because it combines simplicity with strong comparison value. This calculator gives a fast way to quantify annual trend direction in both raw numbers and percentages.
