Bounce Rate Calculator

Free online bounce rate calculator to measure the percentage of website sessions in which users leave after viewing only one page. This calculator is useful for website owners, SEO specialists, marketers, content teams, analysts, and advertisers who want to review visitor behavior and landing page performance. Bounce rate is one of the most common engagement metrics because it helps show whether people interact with a site or leave without taking another step.

The calculator works with two values: single-page sessions and total sessions. From those numbers, it calculates bounce rate as a percentage. It also shows engaged sessions and engagement rate so you can see the other side of the behavior. A high bounce rate does not always mean a page is failing, but it can signal weak user intent match, slow loading, poor design, unclear calls to action, or content that does not encourage deeper browsing. A lower bounce rate may suggest stronger engagement and better page relevance.

The formula of bounce rate

Bounce rate = (Single-page sessions / Total sessions) x 100

Engaged sessions = Total sessions – Single-page sessions

Engagement rate = (Engaged sessions / Total sessions) x 100

Here single-page sessions means visits where the user leaves after viewing one page only, and total sessions means all recorded visits for the selected period. Engaged sessions are the visits where the user continues to another page or takes additional interaction beyond the first page view.

Solved Example

Example 1: Find the bounce rate if a page had 350 single-page sessions and 1,000 total sessions.

Solve: Bounce rate = (350 / 1000) x 100 = 35%

Engaged sessions = 1000 – 350 = 650

Engagement rate = (650 / 1000) x 100 = 65%

Example 2: Find the result if a page had 120 single-page sessions and 500 total sessions.

Solve: Bounce rate = (120 / 500) x 100 = 24%

Engaged sessions = 500 – 120 = 380

Engagement rate = (380 / 500) x 100 = 76%

Example 3: Find the result if a landing page had 900 single-page sessions and 1,500 total sessions.

Solve: Bounce rate = (900 / 1500) x 100 = 60%

Engaged sessions = 1500 – 900 = 600

Engagement rate = (600 / 1500) x 100 = 40%

Table of bounce rate calculator

Single-Page Sessions Total Sessions Bounce Rate Engaged Sessions Engagement Rate
120 500 24% 380 76%
350 1,000 35% 650 65%
480 1,200 40% 720 60%
900 1,500 60% 600 40%

How to use this bounce rate calculator

Enter the number of single-page sessions in the proper input field and then enter total sessions for the same period. Make sure both numbers come from the same analytics date range, such as one day, one week, or one month. Then click the calculate button. The calculator will show bounce rate, engaged sessions, and engagement rate in the answer box.

This calculator is useful when reviewing blog posts, landing pages, ad campaigns, category pages, and other content that attracts traffic. If bounce rate is very high, you may want to check page speed, design clarity, keyword intent, internal links, content quality, or mobile usability. If bounce rate is lower and engagement rate is higher, that may suggest visitors are finding the page useful and continuing their journey through the website.

When using the result, remember that bounce rate should always be read in context. Some pages are designed to answer one question quickly, and a higher bounce rate there may still be acceptable. Other pages should drive deeper navigation, and a high bounce rate on those pages may be a problem. This calculator gives a quick numerical view that supports SEO analysis, CRO reviews, ad landing page testing, and content performance reporting.
