Dividend Calculator

Free online dividend calculator to estimate dividend income from the number of shares owned, current share price, dividend per share, and payment frequency. This calculator is useful for income investors, retirees, finance students, dividend-growth followers, portfolio managers, and anyone who wants a quick estimate of the cash income generated by dividend-paying stocks. Dividend income matters because it shows how much cash an investment can return even when the share price does not change. For many investors, dividends are an important part of total return and can support income planning, stock comparison, and long-term reinvestment decisions.

This calculator uses four main inputs. Shares owned means the number of shares you currently hold. Share price means the current price per share. Dividend per share per payment means the cash dividend paid for each share each time a dividend is issued. Dividend payments per year means how often the company pays dividends, such as annually, semiannually, quarterly, or monthly. Once those values are entered, the calculator shows annual dividend income, dividend yield, income per payment, and dividend income per $10,000 invested. These outputs help you see both the cash amount you may receive and the income rate generated relative to the share price and invested amount.

The formula of dividend income

Annual dividend per share = Dividend per share per payment x Payments per year

Annual dividend income = Shares owned x Annual dividend per share

Dividend yield = Annual dividend per share / Share price x 100

Income per payment = Shares owned x Dividend per share per payment

Dividend income per $10,000 invested = Annual dividend income / (Shares owned x Share price) x 10000

Here shares owned means the number of shares in the portfolio, share price means the current price of one share, dividend per share per payment means the dividend amount paid each time, payments per year means how many dividend payments are made annually, annual dividend income means the total cash income expected over one year, dividend yield means the annual dividend as a percentage of the share price, and income per payment means the cash received each time a dividend is paid.

Solved Example

Example 1: Find the dividend income if you own 250 shares, share price is $40, dividend per share per payment is $0.60, and dividends are paid quarterly.

Solve: Annual dividend per share = 0.60 x 4 = $2.40

Annual dividend income = 250 x 2.40 = $600.00

Dividend yield = 2.40 / 40 x 100 = 6.00%

Income per payment = 250 x 0.60 = $150.00

Dividend income per $10,000 invested = 600 / (250 x 40) x 10000 = $600.00

Example 2: Find the result if you own 100 shares, share price is $80, dividend per share per payment is $1.25, and dividends are paid quarterly.

Solve: Annual dividend per share = 1.25 x 4 = $5.00

Annual dividend income = $500.00

Dividend yield = 5.00 / 80 x 100 = 6.25%

Income per payment = $125.00

Dividend income per $10,000 invested = 500 / 8000 x 10000 = $625.00

Example 3: Find the result if you own 400 shares, share price is $25, dividend per share per payment is $0.20, and dividends are paid monthly.

Solve: Annual dividend per share = 0.20 x 12 = $2.40

Annual dividend income = 400 x 2.40 = $960.00

Dividend yield = 2.40 / 25 x 100 = 9.60%

Income per payment = 400 x 0.20 = $80.00

Dividend income per $10,000 invested = 960 / 10000 x 10000 = $960.00

Table of dividend calculator

Shares Share Price Annual Dividend Income Dividend Yield
100 $80.00 $500.00 6.25%
250 $40.00 $600.00 6.00%
400 $25.00 $960.00 9.60%
600 $55.00 $1,320.00 4.00%

How to use this dividend calculator

Enter the number of shares owned in the proper input field. After that, enter the share price and the dividend per share per payment. Then choose how many dividend payments are made each year and click the calculate button. The calculator will show annual dividend income, dividend yield, income per payment, and dividend income per $10,000 invested in the result box.

This calculator is especially useful when comparing dividend-paying stocks or estimating portfolio income. Two stocks may pay similar cash dividends, but their yields can differ because their share prices differ. The payment frequency also matters for income planning, especially for investors who depend on dividend cash flow. By showing annual income and payment-level income together, the calculator makes it easier to connect the stock’s dividend policy with the investor’s cash expectations.

When using the result, remember that dividend income is never guaranteed. Companies can raise, reduce, suspend, or eliminate dividends, and the share price can change over time, which changes the current yield. Taxes and brokerage costs can also affect the net amount actually received. Even so, this calculator gives a practical first-pass estimate of dividend income and yield that supports stock comparison, income planning, and dividend-investing analysis.
